Part 1: Mura in Bilka & Part 2: Masaráp.
DV-Cam. 6.40 min.
The story is about 3 Filipino women Edita, Aida & Terisita going shopping. The video is in three languages, tagalog (Filipino), Danish and English. The phenomenon shopping is perhaps more known among women than men, but this is only a side story.
Part 1. Mura in Bilka (cheap in Bilka, trans.), takes place in the suburb of Copenhagen in a huge discount shopping center, Bilka. The women are looking at whatever catches their eyes. They enjoy the huge facilities, where you can buy everything from clothes, bikes, food, and everything expected to be very cheap.
Part 2. In Masaráp (tasty, trans.) we follow the three women in various food stores in the center of Copenhagen. They end their hectic day buying specialties in an Asian food store Hong Kong. There the women meet other Filipinos. In Hong Kong, the atmosphere is very local. The women immediately feel at home, recognizing all the different food from their home country. Almost from the beginning they start chatting with other Filipinos, amongst the owner of the shop. With great enthusiasm they talk about food and how to prepare it. In the Filipino culture food is essential, not only to eat, but it is a way to express many feelings as, gratitude, happiness, appreciation and to be a good host.
